The Bald Eagle Flying Club is the oldest flying club in Maine and has provided affordable flying for over half the
history of powered flight. We are a non-profit organization, flying at cost. Monthly meetings are held the 3rd Monday
of each month at 7:00 PM in the Portland Jetport conference room on the second floor of the commercial terminal.
All memberships are family memberships, covering
related pilots living at the same address. Aircraft are based at the Portland International Jetport with access
through Northeast Airmotive.
Monthly
dues are $70.00. The Club Secretary mails each member a monthly newsletter along with an account statement. Pilots
must have a current medical certificate, a current BFR, and be in compliance with all FAR's and all club by-laws to fly.
A check out by a Club instructor is required for membership, however members may use an instructor of their choice for any
other dual instruction. Keys to the aircraft are issued to new members upon completion of the club application.
Initial cost to join is $750.00, of which $300.00 is a deposit to be returned upon resignation from the club and payment of
any outstanding balance.
Each
new club member receives a CD containing the complete maintenance records, checklists, equipment manuals, and other useful
information.
Operating Costs:
The ‘wet’ rate is $80.00 per hour.
Members are responsible for landing fees, tie down costs, and similar
charges at airports other than the Portland Jetport. During periods where the temperature is below 40 degrees, the Club
pays for all pre-heating performed at the tie downs. Members may prepurchase aircraft time in blocks of anywhere from
$300.00 to $599.99 at a 5% discount, and anything above $600.00 will recieve a 10% discount. Hourly aircraft
charges include fuel.
The aircraft
is insured for hull, liability, and medical payments. The Club absorbs the cost of policy premiums. Members are
protected from the insurance company acting against them following a claim. Renter's insurance is not necessary
as long as a member flies only the club aircraft.
